Regularisation: How to enrol in National Health Scheme in Lombardia

Domestic workers who applied to be regularized can enrol in the National Health Scheme. Each Region is free to establish the criteria for enrolment.

According to a Circular letter issued by the health authorities in Lombardia region, housekeepers (colf) and caregivers (badanti) who applied to be regularized can enrol in the National Health Scheme by going to the local health office (ASL) in their City Council of residence and showing an ID document, the receipt they were issued when they applied for regularisation and the receipt of social security contributions made to INPS.

They’ll be enrolled for free to the National Health Scheme for a maximum period of six months. If after six months their application for regularization has not yet been fully processed, they’ll have the possibility of applying for renewal of enrolment in the National Health Scheme. In order to renew the enrolment, they’ll have to show new receipts of social security contributions made to INPS.

Those who apply for enrolment in the National Health Scheme will be issued a temporary fiscal code and a paper medical card allowing them to access all medical services provided by the National Health Scheme.

If the application for regularization is successful, the workers will have the right to fully enrol in the National Health Scheme. Those whose applications for regularization are rejected will only retain the right to urgent and emergency medical care provided to all irregular immigrants.
